Stylist Lauren Dewalt

Having worked professionally as a stylist for more than 14 years, Lauren has received advanced training from some of the top names in the industry, including Sassoon, Bumble and Bumble, and Redken. But her personal connection to her craft runs even longer than her impressive resume. For Lauren, styling goes back generations.

“My aunt is a hairstylist and my grandfather owned a salon back in the day,” she says. “For me, being in a salon has always felt so familiar.” Born and raised in New England, Lauren studied her craft for years in New York City before finally settling in Austin. “I took a road trip out here and fell in love,” she explains. “I just love how proud and happy people
look. Austin is a perfect city full of creativity, individuality, and innovation.”

Within the few short years she has been in Austin, Lauren has already made a name for herself by styling editorials for local magazines like Tribeza, Bleach, and Austin Lifestyle – and, in her spare time, working with the nonprofit, Dress for Success.

A generous and creative spirit, Lauren finds both fulfillment and inspiration in her work as a stylist. From her fashion-forward editorials to her volunteer work, Lauren brings a distinct energy and enthusiasm to everything she does.

Change is simultaneously scary and exciting. For Paloma, it is in this case bittersweet, as well. Our amazing stylist and friend Kate Gibson has announced her move back to Chicago, the city that has been calling her name since her move to Austin two years ago. We are so happy for Kate to be following the call of the windy city and will never forget each day that she brought her energy and talent into Paloma.

We would like to assure you that in preparation for her departure, Kate has been working closely with our two new stylists, Brad and Lauren, to make sure that once she’s gone you can continue to experience the same level of service and skill that you have come to expect from her and from Paloma. For those of you who have not yet met Lauren or Brad, we look forward to introducing you when you come in for your regular appointments.

Dear Friends,
I wanted to send a little note thanking you so much for our time together at Paloma. The past two years have been the most rewarding and loving experience of my life and I have not only you, but my Paloma family to thank. As some of you may already know, I’ve recently accepted a position back home in Chicago and I’m now entering my final two weeks at Paloma. This change (like most major changes) is allowing me to be introspective and reflective of myclientrelationships/friendships and how much we’ve shared. I am so, SO grateful for all of you and will carry you with me always.

Please continue to support Paloma Botanical Beauty Parlor long after I’m gone. It has been such a wonderful place of love, support and creative freedom and I am going to miss it dearly. That being said, Paloma is gaining not one, but two amazingly talented stylists, Lauren and Brad, who will be able to meet your needs and continue to provide you with the excellent level of attentive service that only Paloma can provide.

I have extended my hours to accommodate anyone and everyone who would like to get in over the next two weeks. I would love the opportunity to have a proper goodbye and send you off into the world looking fabulous one last time!

Acupuncture, a major treatment modality of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), was originally used as a preventative action against disease. It excels at balancing the qi, or vital energy, that harmonizes, nourishes and drives the functions of the body. Our bodies are equipped with everything they need to naturally detoxify. However, this process can be hindered by the blockage of qi that occurs from a number of factors. Acupuncture aids the body’s detoxification in multiple ways:

1.  Acupuncture removes blockage and promotes the free flow of qi. When qi flows freely throughout the system, the function of organs improve greatly and their detoxification potential is maximized.

2.  Acupuncture works as a natural diuretic and improves digestive function. During treatments the parasympathetic system takes over and allows the sympathetic system (which is often overworked in our fast paced culture) to rest. Toxins are eliminated primarily through the urinary and digestive tract. With increased urinary output, more toxins can be expelled.

3.  Many of the toxins that accumulate in our bodies are the result of fast, processed, frozen, and cheap foods. We crave heavily flavored foods when our digestive system is weakened and absorption is limited. Acupuncture not only calms cravings, but it helps restore a proper appetite and increases the nutrient absorption of our intestines. When the appetite is under control, our body can recognize the effects of proper food over the quick alternatives. Foods laden with toxins make us feel heavy, tired and zap our energy. Feeling the difference can help us make choices that are in our better interest.

For these reasons acupuncture is commonly used in detox programs for substance abuse. Treatments are highly effective, safe, and non invasive. The National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) protocol is widely used for addiction therapy but has a broader affect and is extremely useful in wellness detoxification. This protocol utilizes ear points alone but in combination with body points has even greater efficacy.
